How Should I Store My Essential Oils, and Do They Have Expiry Dates?
STORING PURE ESSENTIAL OILS IN SINGAPORE
Never keep pure essential oils in clear bottles. Essential oils are light sensitive, and when they are exposed to light, the quality of the oils degrades drastically. Instead, use brown glass bottles to prevent ultraviolet rays from penetrating and reducing its quality.
ESSENTIAL OILS AND EXPIRY DATES
On average, essential oils remain potent for about 1 to 2 years. However, pure essential oils can last for many years (depending on type), when properly stored. Avoid exposing essential oils to extreme temperatures. Citrus essential oils should be stored in the fridge, as they are more sensitive than other essential oils.
Some woody essential oils (i.e. rose, sandalwood or rosewood) ripen over the years like good wine. So, don’t forget to keep them in your wine cellar to stay away from the high humidity levels in Singapore!
